Yoga language explanation
I like to use certain words during my yoga classes that maybe need more explanation and also Yoga itself uses a lot of Sanskrit words that maybe need translation, hopefully, that will give you have more clarity and understanding about them...
A common language is key in every community that shares common interests and visions of life.
If you believe that there is an important term missing here please offer us your suggestion!
- DIVINE: Of or relating to God, especially the Supreme Being. Addressed, appropriated, or devoted to God or a god.
- GOD: The Divine connection, Higher Energy, or the Absolute. However, you want to call the Supreme force that guides you. God is all that is. God is in you, me, nature, God is the Universe.
- GODDESS: In the Tantric view the Goddess is all of Life and the Power of the Universe. Life has many various expressions and hence there are many Cosmic Powers, that are also referred to as Goddesses. This understanding supports the notion that all of Life is intrinsically sacred.
- RITUAL: A ritual is a sequence of activities or steps involving gestures, words, and objects and designed to give space to the Divine or higher intelligence. Rituals make the veils between realities thinner. Rituals provide a space for the wisdom of the Soul to be revealed.
- EMBODIMENT: Embodiment is the experience that makes a concept practical and lived. It is also a type of practice that works deeply on the level of the physical body, with the awareness that the body is the vessel that carries our soul in this lifetime.
- SHANTI: Means peace. We often chant, “Om Shanti Shanti Shanti,” as an invocation of peace at the beginning or end of our yoga practice. In Buddhist and Hindu traditions, you chant "Shanti" three times to represent peace in body, speech, and mind.
- CHAKRAS: Means “wheel” and refers to energy points in your body. They are thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay “open” and aligned, as they correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.
